In anticipation of the pianist's upcoming album 'Black & White'...

Our video of the day is brought to you by renowned classical pianist, Ashley Wass with his meditative performance of Debussy's Clair de Lune. The first single from his upcoming album Black & White, it promises an extended tracklist with beautiful recordings of pieces that the pianist has a special personal connection to.

Perhaps Debussy's most famous piece for piano, Clair de Lune was written to go hand-in-hand with a poem from Paul Verlaine's collection Fêtes Galantes. The composer set six of the poems to music, with Clair de Lune being the first, dating originally from 1890 before being revised in 1905.

This album will follow on from a number of successful collaborations between Ashley Wass and Orchid Classics, many of which have featured as Gramophone's 'Editor's Choice' in the past.

Clair de Lune is out today, and the full album Black & White will be available on April 5. Listen below on Apple Music.
